Longan Fruit
The Longan Scientific name is Dimocarpus
Longan from family Sapindaceae. It is native to China. Longan mean
“Dragon eye”. The fruit is diameter 1.20 to 2.5cm ,round shape and
yellow brown skin. The longan flesh is translucent white, musky, sweet
, soft and juicy. Inside the flesh there was a round seed and shinning
black.
How Longan tree Look?
In Malaysia, the longan tree can grow until 9 to 18 meters height with
evergreen compound leaves with 5 to 10 opposite, elliptic with 10 to 18
cm long and 3 to 5 cm wide. Only hermaphrodite flower can bear a fruit.
The tree growing well at fertile soil with proper drainage system.
There are few variety planted in Malaysia such as Chompoo, Diamond and
Edaw. It is plated huge at Melaka, Johor, Kedah, Selangor, State
Sembilan and Perak state.
Longan Product/Recipes
The sweet and juicy longan fruits was normally consume fresh. Longan
also sold in canned but the fresh is great as well. Driend longan is
excellent as a snacks.
